Obedience Levels

Beginner Obedience:  These classes are specifically designed for teams just starting out in obedience, but we also encourage experienced handler/new dog teams to allow young dogs to build confidence and focus. All classes are based on positive reinforcement. We require students to take the the classes in order as each class builds upon the one preceding it.

Puppy 1: For dogs less than 6 months old. During class, puppies can learn basic commands such as: sit, down, come, and loose leash walking using games that make learning fun and easy. We teach the concepts behind dog behaviors, provide brain games to stimulate learning, introduce you to possible canine sports that you and your dog can enjoy, and teach you tips for doing puppy massage. All this along with practicing important socialization skills necessary for building and strengthening a lifelong, happy, and healthy relationship with your new dog.

Obedience 1: Dogs must be at least 6 months old.   This is a great starting point for anyone who wants a well behaved pet or desires to do more with their canine companion. Dogs will be introduced to basic manners and commands including sit, stay, focus, down, come and loose leash walking.

Intermediate Obedience: These classes focus on improving the teams’ obedience skills and introduce some competition skills.

Obedience 2: Prerequisite: Beginner Obedience 1 or equivalent training.  This class is for dog and handler teams who have previously taken the Obedience 1 class or already know the basic commands of sit, down, stay, focus, come, walk on a loose leash, and leave it.  Class sessions will focus on reviewing and strengthening the above skills and introducing competition basics for traditional and rally obedience.  Classes will also help prepare dogs for the CGC test (Canine Good Citizen) sponsored by the American Kennel Club.

Advanced Obedience: These classes focus on competition skills.

Obedience 3: Prerequisite: Obedience 2 or equivalent. Handler should have experience with training dogs and be interested in competing or would like to take your training to the next level.
This class will provide an advanced approach to the skills necessary to enter the obedience show ring whether traditional obedience or rally obedience: ring entrance, heeling with attention, fronts, finishes, stays and more.
